Community Engagement Summer Internship Program

During the summer, the Center for Leadership and Service partners with six local organizations in Athens to provide internships for eight UGA students. The internship program provides students the opportunity to cultivate skills and gain knowledge about non-profit and community engagement work, while making a positive impact in Athens. Internship host organizations were intentionally selected as model programs that all address the issue of summer learning loss in unique ways. Through this experience, participants have the opportunity to earn a monetary award of $1000 upon successful completion and potentially course credit. Internship host sites include: Action Ministries (2 positions), Athens Land Trust (1 position) Books for Keeps (2 positions), Camp DIVE (2 positions), and Fanning Institute Summer Youth Development Programs (1 position).

Clarke County Mentor Program Internship

Through a partnership with the Clarke County Mentor Program (CCMP), the Center for Leadership and Service hosts 3 undergraduate interns for the academic year. Interns advance the partnership with CCMP by developing creative strategies to support the retention of UGA mentors. Interns work 5 hours a week throughout the academic year and earn two academic course credits - one for successful completion of the internship, and a second for successful completion of a required one credit course in the fall semester "Inequality in American Education." Interns are paid a $1000 stipend ($500 at the end of each semester).
