About Volunteer UGA
Promise Statement:
As the Volunteer UGA Board of Directors, we aim to promote leadership and service, as well as facilitate collaboration within our Volunteer UGA community. We look to spread the awareness of our member organizations along with the needs of the Athens community. By committing to our roles as supporters of the Volunteer UGA community, we ultimately strive to provide the necessary resources for the success and sustainability of the member organizations.
Mission Statement:
Volunteer UGA is a community of student organizations dedicated to encouraging, shaping, and supporting a culture of service within the University of Georgia and Athens-Clarke County communities. Volunteer UGA promotes civic engagement through service-based student organizations, in fulfillment of the University of Georgia's mission to serve. In doing so, Volunteer UGA aims to strengthen collaboration among service groups, connect students with volunteer opportunities, provide the tools necessary for the success of service organizations, increase awareness and fulfill the needs of our community.
Vision Statement
Volunteer UGA aims to support and connect students with service efforts
sponsored by student organizations at the University of Georgia. As a unified
community, the students of the University of Georgia can make a more
profound impact on the global community.
Membership Description
The benefits of being a member of Volunteer UGA include workshops and
training (in areas such as leadership, fundraising, and marketing), access to office space, financial support, and free registration to the annual volunteer
fairs. However, the greatest benefits come from the collaboration
encouraged and enhanced by the structure of Volunteer UGA. As a part of
the Center for Leadership and Service, member organizations are closely
connected to groups with similar passions and interests. They have access to
a much broader volunteer pool through the Volunteer UGA listserv, master
calendar, and promotional activities, and they are able to more easily
collaborate with other service organizations on campus. Volunteer UGA
member organizations also have the support of executive boards and
representatives from numerous organizations to make their organizations as
strong as possible.
History
For over thirty years, Volunteer UGA has worked to engage the students of
the University of Georgia in service of their community. Originally known as
Communiversity, Volunteer UGA remains the first stop for students looking
to give back to the community through volunteerism. Upon moving to its
new home within the Center for Leadership and Service, Volunteer UGA
became a student initiative, bringing together the service-based student
organizations to stand as one community centered around their common
spirit of service. By working with its member organizations, Volunteer UGA
strives to engage all students in service, as an integral part of the college
experience.
Volunteer UGA Board of Directors
Volunteer UGA is a student-led organization under the direction of a board of
student directors. To get in touch with any of the executive board members, please visit the Contact section of our site. |
