See us in action!
The Service Ambassadors have helped engage UGA students with the Athens community and several organizations including United Hospice, UGArden, Oasis Catolico, Athens Community Council on Aging, Brooklyn Cemetery, Boys & Girls Club, Athens PB&J, and so many more. As our mission states, we hope to not only serve but to reflect on our work in order to promote learning for our volunteer participants.
We asked our Service Ambassadors, “why do you serve?” Here’s what they said!
To make a difference, to impact change. I serve because it's my opportunity to walk in another's shoes and gain perspective.
By serving, I hope to give back at least a small part of what I have been given.
I believe service is the most effective and profound form of communication that brings diverse groups of people closer together, making our communities stronger.
I serve because I LOVE hearing others' stories and because I love becoming and feeling ignited! Seeing my smile spread to strangers makes my day!
I serve because I think we as fellow human beings need to help each other out. We get by with the help of our friends. Plus, if no one steps up, who will?
I serve because I AM the people whose lives I get to impact. I serve in hopes of igniting others to serve their community and the world at large. I serve to learn the story of the millions of other people in the world.
I serve because I feel alive in the action of making the world a more beautiful, more equal place to live.
I serve to give back the same amount of compassion and care given to me growing up. I would not be where I am today without service and it is my duty to do the same.
I serve because change first begins with me. If I'm not willing to make a change, I don't have the right to complain.
If I don't, who will?
I serve to help those who need it.
I serve because I have a passion to help others. I love bringing smiles to others by dedicating such a small amount of my time to give back-- the impact is everlasting.
