Vision

  • A just, caring, and thriving world where all lead with integrity and a healthy disregard for the impossible
  • Aligning the vision of our campus-based session with that of the national organization, the Center for Leadership & Service has made a commitment to move toward a year-round experience for LeaderShape participants that better supports advancing individual visions and effecting positive change on the University of Georgia campus.

Mission

  • To transform the world by increasing the number of people who lead with integrity and a healthy disregard for the impossible
  • The LeaderShape Institute strives to offer the highest quality state-of-the-art leadership programs to young men and women in all settings, to facilitate follow-up and advisory support to participants and sponsors, and to be a catalyst in expanding leadership programs centered on leading with integrity to new audiences.  We will have succeeded when graduates of LeaderShape programs improve the quality of their respective organizations, communities, and environments.

History

The LeaderShape Institute at the University of Georgia is hosted by the Center for Leadership & Service, within the Department of Campus Life. The first UGA session was held in 1996 and has established a precedent of engaging students in conversations around leadership, integrity, and social justice at all class levels, from any major area of study, and at any level of involvement.

The transformative curriculum of The LeaderShape Institute has instigated the creation and implementation of several outstanding initiatives on campus that have advanced LeaderShape graduates’ visions, including the first campus-based Relay for Life student organization in the United States.

National Organization

  • The LeaderShape Institute is a national program coordinated by LeaderShape, Inc. Originally developed in 1986 by Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity (ATO), the Institute was designed as a means of improving campus leadership.  In 1988, LeaderShape, Inc. was formed as a separate not-for-profit corporation to take charge of The LeaderShape Institute and further its mission of developing young adults to lead with integrityTM.  LeaderShape, Inc. is governed by a board of trustees, operated by a staff of professionals, and supported by numerous committed volunteers. The creation of this independent not-for-profit corporation expanded the base of financial support and allowed access for a more diverse range of participants.
  • The University of Georgia campus-based session is one of many campus-based sessions that occur around the country and world annually. For more information about the national LeaderShape Institute program or other campus-based sessions, please visit www.leadershape.org.
